US Senator Says Layoffs At Restaurants Was "Un Friendly"

U.S. Senator Chuck Schumer is criticizing Friendly's for its recent closure of about two-dozen corporate-owned restaurants.

The closures hit Schumer's home state of New York hard, with 14 restaurants in that state affected.

Schumer says the Wilbraham-based Friendly's did not give employees a federally-mandated 60-day layoff notice and he is urging a federal investigation into the matter.

A spokesman for Friendly's has responded with a statement saying it complied with federal rules.
