Columbia Gas: No Issues Overnight After Pressure Concerns

Columbia Gas spent Tuesday conducting surveys in two Hampden County towns following an alert about over-pressurized gas lines.

That's the same problem that caused the Merrimack Valley gas explosion last year, but Columbia officials say there are currently no safety concerns in Monson and Palmer, and that there has been no service interruption.

Authorities say anyone who smells natural gas should leave their residence or business and call 911 right away.

Officials say that the western Mass system is different then the system that caused a horrific explosion in the Merrimack Valley.

Fire Department officials are asking that if for any reason you smell gas, to call 911 or your local fire department.
