The Springfield City Council voted last night to ban single-use plastic bags at retail stores.
The ban now goes to Mayor Domenic Sarno's desk.
Stores larger than ten-thousand square feet would have to comply starting June 1st, 2020, and smaller stores would have six months after that before the ban goes into effect.
Meantime, the mayor told reporters last night that he isn't sure what he is going to do with the measure. He says he needs to look at it and figure out if there are negative aspects that will effect the community financially.
