Mayor Sides With Residents on Methadone Clinic In South End

A proposed methadone clinic in Springfield's South End is drawing opposition.

Habit OPCO Inc. is hoping to relocate from its current facility on Main Street in the North End to a shopping plaza at Mill Street and East Columbus Avenue and recently filed for a permit with the state health department.

A statement from Mayor Domenic Sarno's office quotes the president of the South End Citizens Council who says the project should have been brought to the council for review, but that did not happen, and that Habit OPCO did not share the plans with the city or the mayor, either.
