Neal Not Talking About Secretary's Rejection Of Request

U.S. Treasury Secretary Steven Mnuchin says the IRS will not turn over President Trump's tax returns to the Democratic chairman of the House Ways and Means Committee.

Chairman Richard Neal, representing Western Massachusetts, demanded the IRS turn over six years of Trump's personal tax returns, as well as tax returns from his business interests.

In a letter to Chairman Neal, Mnuchin said the request doesn't serve any legitimate legislative purpose.

Mnuchin said the Department of Justice will publish a legal opinion opposing the matter as soon as possible.

House Democrats could now take the issue to the courts.

The Congressman has yet to speak on the issue. He may at some point today.

Most legal analysts suggest the US Supreme Court will be the ultimate decider of the issue.
