Springfield Residents Rally Against Methadone Clinic

Dozens of people attended a South End Citizens Council meeting in Springfield on Monday to talk about a proposed methadone clinic.

Some called the plans by Habit Opco Inc. to move into a shopping center at Mill Street and East Columbus Avenue sneaky.

Mayor Domenic Sarno said the company's initial submitted permit application made it seem as if it was a regular medical facility.

Opco officials did not attend the meeting but MassLive reports they say they did tell the city that the facility would be a methadone clinic.

City officials are encouraging residents to appeal to the state Department of Health, which has approval powers.
