House Speaker Says Facial Recognition Rumors Aren't True

Massachusetts House Speaker Bob DeLeo is disputing claims by a group of UMass-Amherst student protesters about facial recognition technology being used against them at the State House in Boston.

The students demanded more funding for higher education and staged a sit-in at DeLeo's office last week.

They claimed DeLeo's staff threatened them with arrest and that a security officer said the facial recognition system was being operated by law enforcement to match people in the State House with databases looking for people with outstanding warrants.

DeLeo said in a statement that those statements were wildly inaccurate.
