Hearings Set For Unit Closings In Westfield And Palmer

Baystate Health is planning to close its intensive care units in Westfield and Palmer.

There are six ICUs at both the Noble and Wing hospitals, which officials say would be converted to regular medical-surgical use beds.

The state Department of Public Health is scheduling hearings on the proposals on June 18th in Palmer and on June 19th in Westfield.

Officials with the Mass Nurses Association says the closing of units means that people will have to travel longer for life or death services.
