Court: Man Accused Of Casino Assault Committed

A Springfield man who was arrested last September for what was apparently a random assault at MGM Springfield is being found not guilty by reason of mental illness.

A Hampden Superior Court judge made that ruling on Thursday on the case of Devon Williams.

He had been charged with attempted murder for the attack at MGM and was also accused of random assaults elsewhere in Springfield before the casino incident.

The judge in the case allowed a petition from prosecutors to have Williams committed to Bridgewater State Hospital.
