Senator Lesser Calls For Change In Registry

Longmeadow state Senator Eric Lesser is calling for a resignation of a top Registry of Motor Vehicles official.

The Joint Committee on Transportation held an oversight hearing on Tuesday for the RMV following a deadly crash in New Hampshire involving a West Springfield driver who still had his license despite running into trouble out-of-state.

Lesser, a member of the committee, publicly called for RMV Merit Review Board Director Thomas Bowes to step down on Wednesday.

Lesser telling reporters that if Bowes will not step down, he should be fired.

The Governor has not commented. He says he wants to see an independent review of the department.

He cited testimony which indicated Bowes was aware of thousands of unprocessed out-of-state citations that he was responsible for handling.
