Television Icon Retires After 50 Year Career

Dave Madsen, the legendary television anchor whose career spanned many decades is retiring today.

Madsen, who started in radio and then quickly made the switch to television with WWLP first before leaving to go to WGGB TV back in 1989.

He was born in Southampton and still lives there. Has two children and two grandchildren.

Known for his community service throughout the years with the Muscular Dystrophy Telethon and others.

For years he has been an energetic supporter of The Jimmy Fund and other civic causes.

In 2017, he became the first television reporter from Western Mass to be inducted into the Massachusetts Broadcasters Hall of Fame.

And, he has always had time for the next generation of reporters mentoring many throughout the years.

He will be missed by many in western Mass for his friendship and dedication to the area.
