Blood Mobiles Ending Service In Springfield And Worcester

The American Red Cross is planning to end mobile blood drives in Western and Central Massachusetts.

The Red Cross said on Tuesday that it was making the tentative decision based on challenging economic conditions in the blood industry.

The organization says it will continue to collect blood and platelet donations at centers in Springfield and Worcester, and that the decision will not affect the availability of blood products for those in need.

The decision is expected to impact up to nearly 70 jobs.

Officials say that anything that has already been scheduled will go on, but then no more after that.
