Expanded Train Service Tested In Western Mass

Daily passenger train service up and down the Pioneer Valley could be starting by the end of the month.

The Massachusetts Department of Transportation says Amtrak is making test runs for the Valley Flyer this week.

Service from Union Station in Springfield to Holyoke, Northampton and Greenfield was supposed to start earlier this summer, but MassDOT says it has been delayed due to track and signal work in Greenfield.

Passengers will be able to continue on to New Haven, Connecticut as part of the existing Hartford Line, once the Valley Flyer starts.
