The State Auditor Suzanne Bump is calling on the Department of Public Health to do better in monitoring nursing homes for abuse.
The auditor says the department has to better prioritize cases, including cases that involve physical or mental abuse or misappropriation of client funds.
The auditor says that the state has an obligation to protect the interests of people living in nursing homes.
