Preliminary elections were held Tuesday in several cities in Western Massachusetts.
In Chicopee, the mayoral race was narrowed down to City Council President John Vieau and political newcomer Joseph Morissette; opponents included former Chicopee mayor Michael Bissonnette. Candidates advancing in Chicopee's Ward 3 race were Lucjan Galecki and Scott Maziarz.
In Northampton, candidates for the City Council Ward 7 seat who won the preliminary race were Rachel Maiore and Penny Geis.
In Pittsfield, the race for mayor has been boiled down to Melissa Mazzeo and Linda Tyer.
