State public health officials are urging Massachusetts residents to get a flu shot as soon as possible.
The department is already confirming more than 80 cases of the flu since September first.
Public Health Commissioner Monica Bharel says they don't know how severe the flu virus will be this year.
However, she says the flu vaccine is still the best way for people to protect themselves and their families from the virus.
