One of Springfield’s all-time greats and Cathedral High School graduate tennis pro Tim Mayotte says it has been his dream to bring a women's professional tennis tournament to the city of Springfield for some time.
Mayotte visited with the Springfield Mayor, Dom Sarno Tuesday to set the wheels in motion.
Mayotte has been a Wimbledon Champion among other things. Mayotte has been working with Springfield City Councilor on the idea.
Mayotte and Ryan went to school together in at Cathedral High School.
Mayor Sarno stated, “Great to have Tim back and I’m deeply appreciative of his love and interest in doing this pro tournament right here in his hometown of Springfield.”
“It’s so exciting to be back in Springfield. I always considered it my home and bringing professional tennis here has always been a dream of mine,” added Mayotte.
Potential sites for the tournament are Pope Francis High School, Springfield College or Forest Park.
