Distracted Driving Now Against The Law

Governor Charlie Baker has signed legislation requiring hands-free use of electronic devices while driving.

The new law says drivers cannot read or view text or look at images or video, unless what is being viewed on the device is helping with navigation and the device is mounted in an appropriate location.

Phone calls must be made only using hands-free technology such as Bluetooth.

Violators face fines of one-hundred dollars for a first offense, 250 dollars for a second and a five-hundred-dollar fine for a third or subsequent offense.
