Northampton Reject High Tech Police Approach

The city of Northampton is the third municipality in Massachusetts to ban facial-recognition technology.

The City Council voted for that ban last Thursday, unanimously.

Concerns about the technology include that it can encourage racial profiling.

That action has also been taken in Brookline and Somerville.

Meantime, Springfield City Councilors have been dealing with the same issue.

Police Commissioner Cheryl Clapprood is supporting the measure.
