Holyoke Chief: One Weekend Murder Might Have Never Happened

Holyoke Police Chief Manny Febo is releasing a statement about a weekend homicide in the city.

Febo says the murder suspect, Jean Carlos Rivera of Holyoke, was a validated member of the La Familia gang who had been sentenced to three years of probation last year after pleading guilty to selling crack cocaine.

Febo says the death of Jesus Otero-Marrero could have been prevented if a federal judge in Springfield had just imposed even the lower end of the minimum sentence time available within the federal sentencing guidelines.

He described the killing as a gangland slaying.
