Surprise Closing Of Iconic White Hut

There has been a steady stream of people this weekend stopping by the West Springfield location of a legendary eatery that has suddenly closed.

The White Hut, for more than 80 years a mainstay in West Springfield has abruptly closed.

The owners are not saying why.

Known for its simple hot dogs and burgers, friend egg breakfast sandwiches, the facility played host to construction workers, visitor, cops and business people in their suits, all pressed against the counter eating lunch of breakfast.

A simple sign in the windows tells it all:

"It is with great reservation to let you, all of our long time and loyal customers/fans know that we are permanently closed. We have truly appreciated your patronage over the past 80+ years and wish that we could continue on, however because of powers beyond our control, we have to close."

The owners have not been available for comment.

The owners do have a separate facility that is in Longmeadow that is unaffected by the closing.
