Next Move Is Mayor's In Moratorium Showdown

The Springfield City Council, undaunted by an almost certain mayoral veto, has approved a moratorium on facial recognition software.

The vote was 11-2, enough to override the all but certain veto from the mayor.

City Councilors had worried about privacy concerns.

The moratorium prevents the use of the software, something that both the mayor and police commissioner wanted to explore as an aide to the department.
