Mayor OK With Eversource Taking Over Columbia Gas

Springfield Mayor Domenic Sarno says he has talked with Eversource Energy about plans to acquire Columbia Gas of Massachusetts.

Sarno says he was re-assured by Eversource that they will continue to serve the Springfield community and provide quality service.

The U.S. Justice Department announced earlier this week that Columbia would stop all of its gas pipeline operations in the state as part of an agreement reached regarding the Merrimack Valley gas explosions, prior to the news of the Eversource acquisition.

The initial news prompted the city of Springfield to ask if Columbia anticipated any changes on the timeline for response to any grade of gas leaks in the city, on which Columbia had recently pledged to expand efforts.
