Holyoke Medical Center is proposing a new behavioral health hospital.
The announcement on Monday is for plans to build a one-hundred-bed inpatient behavioral health center on HMC's existing campus.
This follows news that Providence Behavioral Hospital in Holyoke is closing its inpatient psychiatric beds.
A spokesperson for Holyoke Medical Center says the timing is coincidental.
The project will require local and state approval.
