Courts To Remain Open- But With Changes To Make Them Safer

All the state courts in The Commonwealth will remain open according to officials over the weekend.

But to stem the spread of the virus court officials will allow for the first time more video conferencing, electronic filings and encouraging defendants to pay court costs and fees on-line.

The order takes affect on March 18th.

There are 99 courthouses in the state that see more than 40 thousand visitors everyday.

The State Supreme Court issued a statement on Friday which says that "Our priority is to significantly reduce the number of people into our courts, especially in large group settings."

The statement says that the court is balancing access to the courts with public health and safety.
