Mayor: Not My Call On School Returning Or Not

The Springfield Mayor says it is the state’s call as to whether school will be called back into session between now and the end of the year. The issue comes up after the Connecticut Governor conceded that it is very likely that school will be closed until the fall. Could it happen in Springfield and the state? Mayor Dom Sarno, who also serves as the chairman of the School Committee tells WHYN News, he doesn’t have a say in the matter:

“Basically, it’s the state’s decision but like with all aspects of life in dealing with and defeating this challenge before all of us – as long as we could move forward in a safe and healthy environment – the sense of normality is always the goal with relief and recovery efforts when dealing with such natural and/or manmade disasters.”

Governor Baker has not commented on whether he is considering such a measure for the Commonwealth.
