Pandemic Can't Stop Debt Collectors From Calling

A federal judge says the state of Massachusetts cannot block debt collectors from calling residents seeking payment.

The judge also says the state also cannot block debt collectors from suing people if they do not pay.

The judge ruled that the order crafted by state Attorney General Maura Healey violates the First Amendment.

The ruling also indicates that stopping debt collectors hurts hospitals and utilities which rely on these collections to remain solvent.
