John Velis Wins State Senate Race

A Democrat will represent the Massachusetts Senate's 2nd Hampden and Hampshire District for the first time in twenty-five years.

Westfield state Representative John Velis won a special election on Tuesday over Republican John Cain, a Southwick businessman.

The seat, which will be up for grabs again this fall, was made empty by the resignation of Donald Humason, who left the Legislature to become the mayor of Westfield.

The special election was delayed for nearly two months because of the coronavirus.
