Mild Drought: Why In One Way It Is Good News

State Officials continue to watch the environmental issues. First the paucity of rain that we have had across most of the state is actually pretty good news.

It is keeping the mosquito population down.

Parts of Central and Western Mass according to the latest from the state is that it is in "a moderate drought."

Some communities across the region have opted to install forms of water conservation from watering lawns during certain hours and restrictions on washing your car unless it were at a car wash.

The Governor has filed a bill that would give new powers to the State Reclamation and Mosquito Control Board to develop new approaches to fighting off mosquito borne viruses like West Nile and Eastern Equine Encephalitis.

The Governor says that the powers are needed because a lot of communities have not joined Mosquito Control Projects and the mosquitoes do not pay attention to borders.
