Tropical Storm Isaias Expected To Impact Region This Week

Tropical Storm Isaias is getting closer to the Florida coast.

Isaias is currently about 45 miles east of Fort Lauderdale with maximum sustained winds of 65 miles per hour.

Forecasters warn that Isaias could pick up strength today and turn back into a hurricane as it roars up along the coast.

Isaias is expected to move north throughout the day, soaking the East Coast with tropical rain.

As the Tropical Storm moves up the coast, there is still a likelihood that the storm will have some effect on New England.

On Monday and Tuesday, the center of Isaias will move quickly from offshore of the coast of Georgia into the southern mid-Atlantic states.

If the current forecast holds, Isaias will be approaching the New England coast by Tuesday evening , but a great deal of uncertainty still remains with both the track of the storm and how quickly it may move up the coast.

We could see 40 to 60 mile an hour winds and two to four inches of rain. Some of the rain accumulations may be higher the western side of a storm.

Officials at the Massachusetts Emergency Management say the probaility that we will get tropical force winds have increased a little bit over the last 24 hours. The latest predictions indicate:

Nantucket: 32%

Hyannis: 28%

Boston: 28%

Worcester: 28%

Springfield: 27%

Although it can change at any time, there are no current watches or warnings in effect for the region. The experts in the weather center say that usually changes about 48 hours before a storm before onset of the impact of the storm in the area.
