The state education department is urging some Western Massachusetts school districts that are in low-risk COVID-19 communities to return to in-person learning.
The school committee of one of the districts, East Longmeadow, discussed the directive last night, but indicated they plan to continue with remote-learning.
Other Western Mass school districts facing pressure from the state include Berkshire Arts and Technology Charter Public, Gill-Montague, Hoosac Valley Regional, Mohawk Trail, Hawlemont, Pittsfield and West Springfield.
East Longmeadow officials say they will keep everything the way they have agreed to. They will vote on whether to return to physical classrooms in the middle of December.
In West Springfield, Mayor Will Reichelt says that the school committee will review the request tonight. But he says whatever decision that they have been making was with the health of the students and teachers in mind.
