Governor Wants Superintendent Fired

Governor Charlie Baker on Wednesday called for the Holyoke Soldiers' Home board of trustees to fire its superintendent.

A judge has ruled the state's termination of Bennett Walsh for the handling of a deadly COVID-19 outbreak at the facility was invalid, and that only the Soldiers' Home board has the authority to make such a decision.

Baker said it's his administration's expectation that the board will act to remove Walsh permanently; the board is holding a special meeting next week.
