Governor Charlie Baker was asked Tuesday about the charges filed by the state against former administrators of the Holyoke Soldiers' Home over the handling of a deadly coronavirus outbreak. Superintendent Bennett Walsh and medical director David Clinton are charged with criminal neglect. Baker pointed to the independent investigation that was released after the outbreak which highlighted errors and mistakes that were made, leading to horrible consequences for the veteran residents. The Soldiers' Home Board of Trustees is holding a special meeting today after a judge ruled the state did not have the authority to fire Superintendent Walsh; instead, it was determined that the board holds that power.
The Board of Trustees will meet tonight in Executive Session to talk about the potential of firing Walsh and Clinton.
