Federal Suit Filed Against Chicopee Landlord

The U.S. Attorney's Office is filing a sexual harassment lawsuit against a Chicopee landlord.

The allegations against Salazar dos Santos include subjecting female tenants to unwelcome sexual contact and implicitly offering benefits such as rent payment plans in exchange for sex.

The lawsuit seeks monetary damages to compensate the victims, civil penalties and a court order restricting contact with the tenants.

U.S. Attorney Andrew Lelling says during a time of increased unemployment and financial stress, his office will aggressively enforce the Fair Housing Act, which outlaws such harassment.

No court schedule has been announced yet.
