Major Snowstorm Ready To Batter Region

Most of Western Mass and Northern Connecticut is under a Winter Weather Warning in anticipation of a Nor'easter type storm. The National Weather Service is predicting heavy snow across the state, with up to a foot expected in some areas before the storm wraps up during the day on Thursday. The lightest snow is expected on the South Coast and in far Western Massachusetts. The weather service is predicting eleven inches of snow for Boston and ten inches in Worcester. The Greater Springfield area could get somewhere in the 12 inch range with the higher elevations getting a little more. Governor Baker has already advised residents to stay home and stay off the roads--as travel will be very difficult. Parking bans are in effect throughout most of the area. Many school districts have opted for remote learning.

Eversource says it's ready for the approaching snowstorm. The utility company says crews, including many from out-of-state, have been pre-positioned to respond to any potential power outages. However, a spokesperson says restoring service may take longer if there are blizzard conditions.
