Negotiators Have Deal On Climate Change Bill

Negotiators in the state legislature have reached agreement on a major bill designed to address climate change.

The measure would require the state's gross emissions of greenhouse gases to be reduced 85 percent below 1990 levels within 30 years.

Under the bill, statewide greenhouse gas emissions must be at least 50 percent below 1990 levels by the end of this decade.

The conference committee's report also would require that 40 percent of the state's power be renewable by 2030.
