M-I-T Professor To Face Federal Grant Fraud Charge

A professor and researcher at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology is charged with federal grant fraud.

Prosecutors say Gang Chen failed to disclose contracts, appointments and awards from China to federal regulators.

He allegedly has received around 29-million-dollars from foreign entities, including 19-million from a Chinese college.

Chen is charged with wire fraud, failing to file a foreign bank account report and making a false statement in a tax return.

US Attorney Andrew Lelling says it is not about targeting a particular ethnic group.

He does say it is about protecting taxpayer dollars and insuring no one is taken advantage of.
