Springfield Area Ready For Mass Vaccinations

Governor Charlie Baker's administration on Tuesday announced the expansion of the COVID-19 vaccination site at UMass Amherst.

Baker's office said the site will start to provide inoculations for eligible residents in the Phase One priority groups.

UMass has been providing vaccines to first responders.

Others who are eligible in Phase One include health care workers on the COVID front line, those in nursing facilities and congregate care settings.

It was also announced yesterday that Massachusetts is partnering with CVS Health and Walgreens to administer COVID-19 vaccines for those currently eligible.

Initial locations include several in Western Massachusetts: in Greenfield, Lee and Pittsfield.

Meantime, it appears that Western Mass is going to get a mass vaccination site. There are already sites at Gillette Stadium and Fenway Park. Mayor Dom Sarno says a vaccination site will be in the greater Springfield area.
