Battered But Not Beaten By Monday NorEaster

Blasted but still going.

The NorEaster that battered the region is moving northward but it has left in its wake thousands of DPW crews throughout Massachusetts and Connecticut with a big cleanup.

There was one big break that we got from the storm and that is that more often then not there was no real changeover to rain and therefore the snow is pretty easy to move.

You may see from time to time throughout the day today a snow shower but there will be no accumulation from that.

Despite the storm moving out of the area, the cleanup and the dangers persist. Road crews report that there are slippery roads all throughout the area.

The Speed Limit on the Mass Pike is 40 miles per hour from the New York Line through Ludlow and beyond.

In Connecticut, the Governor banned empty tandem trailers from the state until further notice.

Most schools in the region have opted for some sort of remote learning. But there are a few that have opted for the entire day off.

Chicopee, Holyoke, Monson, Ware and the Southwick Tolland Granville school systems are all closed today because of the weather.

In Springfield, Mayor Dom Sarno issued a statement late last night, which will see city buildings open at 11 this morning. "“Due to the inclement weather and snowstorm and upon recommendation of emergency preparedness officials, Springfield City Hall and all municipal buildings will be opening at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, February 2, 2021. I want to thank everyone for their patience. Stay safe and God Bless.”

Snow totals are in the general area of between 6 and 12 inches although there was a little more in the Berkshires.

We are expecting cloudy skies today and tomorrow with the high today around 30.

By the time we get through to Thursday we will actually have mostly sunny skies with the high near 40.
