Delegation Seeks Bigger, Better HSH For Future Needs

State legislators are urging Governor Charlie Baker to reconsider plans for a new Holyoke Soldiers' Home.

The state is pushing for the new facility to be built following the fatal coronavirus outbreak that killed dozens of veterans last year.

A letter spearheaded by Western Mass state Senator John Velis has been sent to Baker saying the number of beds proposed for the new HSH is too low.

The Soldiers' Home board of trustees also pushed back against the lower capacity at a meeting last month.

The state is trying to have plans ready in time to meet a deadline for federal funding in April.

The current proposal is for 192 beds at the facility.

The Governor has yet to respond.
