The Holyoke City Council is passing a home rule petition to avoid holding a special election for mayor.
Alex Morse is set to leave the position to become town manager of Provincetown.
The regular mayoral election is set for November.
City Council President Todd McGee previously said he could not become acting mayor as called for by the city charter, but in an update on Tuesday,
McGee said he is willing to serve temporarily.
