Springfield and State Police have met to map out a game plan to knocking down gang and gun violence which has plagued the city over the last few weeks. The Springfield Mayor and Police Commissioner had asked for State Police help to assist in keeping residents safe.
“We are always thankful for the support and continued partnership we have with the State Police and appreciate their willingness to provide an extra law enforcement presence in our city to keep our residents in all our neighborhoods safe,” said Commissioner Clapprood.
Mayor Sarno states, “I’m very grateful to Col. Mason and Major Habel for our valued and mutually beneficial collaboration in the name of public safety for all our residents and business community. SPD and our state police will continue to work hard to save lives and stop this gang and gun violence. It is my hope that our court system will start stepping up and keeping these violent individuals off our streets and out of our neighborhoods.”
“We have a long-standing partnership with the Springfield Police Department and will enhance our existing presence in the city to further assist the dedicated efforts of local officers and Hampden County prosecutors to protect residents from gun violence and other serious crimes,” said Colonel Christopher S. Mason, Superintendent, Massachusetts State Police.
The increased patrols will allow local police to have a greater presence. The Police Commissioner telling reporters that she was concerned about the number of shots that were being fired in cases...and the very real possibility that innocent bystanders could be hurt.
No specifics have been released as to when and how long the patrols will last.
