A Boston Senator Says She Is Running For Governor

Another hat in the ring for Governor in Massachusetts. This time it is State Senator Sonia-Chang Diaz who says she is in the race. She was instrumental in crafting a police reform bill that was signed into law.

The Boston Democrat says she is running to take on the Beacon Hill who are providing no answers to the urgent questions and issues that are facing the state.

According to a campaign video that is already out, the senator says "They said our ideas were impossible, we made them the law. The trouble is: that kind of urgency in our state government is still the exception rather than the rule. Too many leaders are more interested in keeping power than in doing something with it."

There are two other democrats that are running for the nomination. Former Pittsfield State Senator Ben Downing and a Harvard Professor Danielle Allen. Republican Gov Charlie Baker has not decided one way or the other whether he will run for re-election.

Among other things, the senator is calling for the passage of a millionaires tax to fund better growth in education.

Meantime, there is plenty of fundraising going on across the state. The Governor has raised almost a half a million dollars, conceding it won't take long to raise money if he were to decide to run for re-election. Lt Governor Karyn Polito has raised nearly 2 million dollars.
