The state's indoor mask mandate in public schools has been extended for a month until at least November 1st. Public school students age five and older and all staff must wear masks in school. However, at middle and high schools where the vaccination rate is over 80-percent, the mask mandate can be waived. All students and staff are also required to wear masks on school buses.
Meantime, the Board of Health in Amherst has approved a vaccine mandate for schools in the town. The School Committee is expected to give final approval on that at a meeting tonight.
