Springfield Reports Crime Numbers

Police Commissioner Cheryl Clapprood says that crime overall is down in the city by seven percent---although there was an uptick in violent crime. That was based on 100 more aggravated assaults. That reflects a national trend. The report is based on FBI Data. In addition, the commissioner says that overall crime over the last decade is down by 46 percent. Violent crime by almost 30 percent...and property crime by 51 percent.

According to a statement released by the city, nationally, violent crime is up approximately 5.6% from 2019 to 2020 and murders increased by nearly 30% across the country.

In Springfield,

From 2019 to 2020, Overall Crime decreased by 4%

From 2019 to 2020, Violent Crime increased by 6%

From 2019 to 2020, Property Crime decreased by 7%

From 2010 to 2020, Overall Crime decreased by 46%

From 2010 to 2020, Violent Crime decreased by 29%

From 2010 to 2020, Property Crime decreased by 51%

The mayor Dom Sarno calls it a sign that the department and the city continue to do the right things when it comes to all quality of life issues.
