Better Numbers Possible In Revamped Report

Supporters of the East-West passenger rail in Massachusetts say a new report finds that MassDOT underestimated ridership excluding the Hartford area.

They say the report estimates a 54-percent increase by including direct service to the Hartford Line. Longmeadow Senator Eric Lesser says East-West service will link all of western New England with the eastern part of the region.

He says MassDOT needs to update it feasibility study to include the economic impact analysis prepared by the Pioneer Valley Planning Commission, the Hartford-based Capitol Region Council of Governments and a consulting firm.
