Rally Against Proposed Eversource Pipeline

Area residents against the proposed 33 million dollar natural gas pipeline through parts of Longmeadow, Springfield and Agawam rallied on the steps of City Hall to make their case against the project which the company says is needed to deal with aging infrastructures among other things.

Protesters say they are concerned about safety in the aftermath of issues in the Merrimack Valley as well as for environmental issues.

But Eversource says the 33 million dollar project is needed as a backup against system failure in the area. They point the the pipes in the ground in Springfield being more than 70 years old.

State Rep Carlos Gonzales says he will meet with company officials to hear for himself the specifics of the program and bring the concerns of the area directly to the company.
