Springfield State Rep Carlos Gonzales is the co chairman of the joint committee on Homeland Security.
He met with Eversource officials about a proposed 33 million dollar pipeline project through Longmeadow and Springfield.
Eversource says it is needed as a backup for old pipes under city streets.
But Gonzales says the project isn't really needed.
That if it is approved then it should not be financed on the back of the rate payer.
And, besides that he says the company should be gearing itself more toward green energy than fossil fuels.
There will be further talks.
