A Somber Day As Holyoke Remembers Slain Officer

This is a somber day in Holyoke where it was 22 years ago today that Police Officer John DiNapoli was killed in the line of duty.

Current and retired officers marking the day with ceremonies outside of the police headquarters.

Officer DiNapoli was fatally shot while assisting other officers who were following a suspect in an unmarked vehicle. He was not assigned to the detail but volunteered for the assignment.

The gunman fled the scene and was found in Pennsylvania. That man, Eddie Morales was found guilty of the murder and sentenced to life in prison without the possibility of parole.

Andrew DiNapoli who is 50 now, followed in his father's footsteps and is currently on the Holyoke Police Force.
