Judge Asks For Review Of Cancer Link To Deaths At Courthouse

Calls are continuing for something to be done about the downtown Springfield courthouse complex.

Judge Claudine Wyner, the chair of an advisory committee, is asking the Massachusetts Trial Court for a study on the possible link between diseases and working at the courthouse.

Wyner said five people have died of ALS disease, including three judges who had offices in the same part of the facility.

A group of attorneys held a press conference earlier this week to declare the courthouse has dangerous levels of toxic and cancer-causing mold.

Meantime, the Springfield Republican reports that Judge Mark Mason will move the so-called Nathan Bill's Bar fight case- that involves four off duty Springfield Police officers--out of the Hampden Courthouse if he has to.

If that happens the Judge says that he will move the trial next door to the current Housing Court Building. That building was originally built back in 1874.
